Allow 301 Redirects to external domain

Hello

We need to have a redirection of one of our weebly page to an external page.

However, this is not possible through the manager of the site (only internal page targets).
Anyway to do that?

Regards

christophe

Yes, you can do this.  Here's how...

  • Create a page named  Google
  • Enable the checkbox to "Hide if from Navigation"
  • Under Header Type, click SEO Settings
  • In Header Code, paste this:
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=https://google.com" />
  • Publish your site.
  • Go to http://www.my-weebly-site.com/GOOGLE and it should redirect to Google (you'll probably see an interim page load first).  Also, note, browsers can disable META REFRESH, but it's enabled by default.  So, in the event it's disabled, I recommend putting a link to the page you want to redirect to

Not sure why Weebly does not allow 301 redirects to external pages.  Seems totally arbitrary decision on their part that no one would ever want to link to a non-Weebly page.  Weebly - please add this feature.

Page specific 301's to a new domain is preferred. People change or update brand names which requires a new domain in many cases.

www.brandname1.com/about-us.html -- 301 redirect to -- www.brandname2.com/about-us.html

These cases happen and you're not providing the ideal solution to the problem. Server-side redirects for these cases are the best option.

I just forwarded a Weebly domain to an external domain, and it's using both 302 and 301 redirects for some reason (the 302 redirect also points to an http adress instead of https). Is there a way to use just 301 in this case, so Google knows this is a permanent change? GoDaddy allows you to specify - when forwarding a site - whether or not you want to use a 301 or 302 redirect. Weebly does not.

How did you redirect to an external domain, @jeffbrown? Did you use the destination option when configuring the domain?

I changed the destination to "Forward to an external URL."

Ok. Are you seeing both when you visit the root domain of the domain you forwarded, and do you see both if you visit the www subdomain of the forwarded domain? I'm guessing we use a 301 from the root domain to the www subdomain, but a 302 from there to the other domain (or vice versa).

Sorry Adam, but that is a half-baked excuse for not offering this feature to people like me, who barely know what a 301 redirect is, much less what a 302 is, or how to configure it!
