Bar code scanner to scan egift card bar code from smart phone

I just got a Symbol Motorola LS2208 bar code scanner for my Square Register to scan eGift card bar code.  After connecting it to Square Register, I just realized that the bar code scanner can’t pick up bar code from any smart phone screen (it works with bar code on the paper).  Are there other bar code scanners that are compatible with Square Register and be able to scan bar code from smart phone screen?

From an article I just read, usually 2D scanners are required to read a Cell phone.  1D scanners are lasers and the 2D are Photo scanners and may use a laser for aiming purposes.  Square only has 2 scanners they sell, and I am not sure if either one is a 2D scanner.

But again you would need to research to see which ones are 2D and imagining scanners.

I have a Zebra 6878 2D scanner (Corrected the model #) and sometimes it scans a cell phone sometimes it does not.  Think it has to do with lighting and reflections, screen protectors too.  This is because I try it with my cell phone and sometimes it scanned other times it did not.

Thank you very much for the information. I will try to get this Zebra (Symbol) DS6707 2D bar code scanner from eBay to see if it works.  If not then I’ll just go back entering eGift card number by hand.

You're welcome Chris, and my scanner is actually recognized by Square as a Symbol DS6707 on the Ipad Stand.  I think the difference is the wire.  the DS6707 has the USB cable right to the Scanner where as the 6878 has the USB cable to a base and charges the Scanner to be wireless to the base then USB to the computer / tablet system.
