Why did you choose Square for your business?

Square had the full suite of services we knew we needed (or would grow into) and an excellent pricing structure.

What are your favorite and least favorite things about running a business?

Just having my hands in so many different aspects – it's operations, marketing, sales, all the things...having the diversity of duty is great and keeps it interesting.

My least favorite is the people part – having that kind candor to correct and/or discipline employees because you do become a tight knit group.

What is something you didn’t expect about running a business?

How hard the employee piece is, it's something we're constantly dealing with, encouraging people to work to their potential, mentoring people, etc. It's a lot of energy.

How do you plan for the future?

We take a real organic growth type of plan. We are constantly looking at numbers and data but one of the beauties of being a small business is the ability to react to the market in real time. While we have an idea of what we SHOULD be doing that can change with the overall macro conditions of the economy and our industry.

What are your long-term plans for your business?

Continue to grow our e-commerce side and transition to a national brand.

What has helped you to grow your business?

Being authentic. While it's prudent to be aware of what's happening around your business from a competitive analysis stand point, consumers are astute and want a real experience with real people. We are moving away from aspirational to attainable. We want our customers to know we are real people that are just like them.
