I received an e-mail from Square yesterday captured below
How do I know if the update has taken place. I did launch Square today.
In about section of the app, it shows
Version: 5.23(5230020)
SPoC version - SPOC 1.0

Hi @mak24, welcome to the Seller Community and thanks for bringing this up!
We added some additional clarity in this product update: Debit Chip & PIN on Square Reader.
Have a look there and let us know if any questions remain. 🙂

Mine has already updated.
Go into your settings on the app and click on readers.
Then under my readers click on the contactless + chip reader and info will pop up on it at the bottom.
Read the firmware number .
It should read something like this # SCRP. 1.3.1.59 or higher.
If it does then you are good to go.
It takes something like about 20 minutes for the update of the firmware to go through once your Square App is open.
I did mine early in the morning while I got ready for work.
Question- it just updates the firmware, correct? It doesn't mean I have to get another contactless chip reader??? If this works, it will be great! So many people want to pay with debit.
Yes that is correct.
It updates the firmware on your current contactless reader.
Does square up accept debit chip and pin technology in canada not just tap?
