Really Slow Virtual Terminal

No Idea board this should go in.

We use the Virtual Terminal on a Win10 netbook (small laptop) over Wi-Fi (strong signal) in our warehouse to take CNP transactions. It takes ages and ages to login, then the first transaction on the Virtual Terminal can take over 30 minutes. After that they are pretty quick IF we do them one after another. But if we have to go and pick a few more orders before putting the transactions through, it slows to a stop again.

This morning it has taken over 2 hours to put 4 transactions through, but in the office they put one through in a few minutes.

It would not be efficient for the office to put them all through, but at the moment it is impossible to work the way we want to.

Any suggestions?

BTW we use Firefox as the browser, we tested lots of different ones and that was the quickest, relatively speaking 🙂

We also checked the Netbook was man enough, which it is and there is literally nothing else on the netbook as that is all we use it for. It is kept fully up to date with updates and we have switched off all the things (like Alexa) which traditionally slows win10 down.

Hi @cassie75, thanks for raising this and for the detail.

There's a few things I'd like to touch on here, If the Virtual Terminal is working well at the office this would suggest it's a network issue or an issue with the Netbook itself.

Slow processing may be due to a weak network connection. When processing a payment, always make sure you have a strong internet connection.

Let's try to figure this out by testing the following steps:

  • Switch to a supported browser, such as Google Chrome and test the Virtual Terminal there.
  • Check your internet speed is above 20 mbps which is recommended by Square https://www.speedtest.net/
  • If you have a smart phone or a tablet at home, log into your Square Dashboard, open the Virtual Terminal on there and see if it runs any faster

This should help us narrow down the issue.
