Our restaurant recently started using the Square Register. However, when customers ask to split the bill, usually paying by debit or credit card, the whole system crashes and we lose the transaction. It has to reboot and we have to manually input all the items again for the customer to pay! It doesnโt happen every time but it is frequent enough and is seriously annoying! Especially as we are about to hit the busy summer period! Can anyone help with this??

That does sound very disruptive so I apologise for this experience.
In terms of troubleshooting here - I would suggest performing a factory reset on your Register when you can. You can follow the steps in this article under Reset your Register.
If after doing so the crashing persists, you'll need to contact our support team directly and they will be able to file a ticket for our engineers to investigate.
They will need to get a copy of the diagnostic reports, that are mentioned in the article for when you are resetting the Register.
