I can definitely help out with this question!
To get going, the Square magstripe and chip card readers are compatible with most Apple iOS and Android devices running the latest software versions.
On the flip side, we don't currently support the following:
- BlackBerry devices
- Windows devices
- Non-mobile devices, such as laptop and desktop computers
- Unreleased or beta software versions for your device
- Amazon Kindle devices
To confirm if your exact device is supported, just visit Square's Device Compatibility page.

Hi @Ksleek - thanks for making your first post on the community!
You can use some features from a personal computer like view your Dashboard, use Virtual Terminal, or create and send Invoices.
If you are looking to operate the Point of Sale software, you will need a compatible phone or tablet. See @Sean's answer detailing what types of devices are supported with Square Point of Sale.

I bought a new phone - Oppo R9s plus today.
Forget the reader in old phone
Log out of Square up on old phone and force stop.
Install Square up and go through reader connection/pairing
Message "Pairing with square reader" as normal
Error "Failed to pair"
Sometimes I see something like keeping "reader rejected pairing"
Have reconnected back on old phone successfully, disconnected tried again a number of times. No go.
Old phone always works - Samsung J3 2016.
Does the Oppo R9s have a known compatibility issue?

Hi @Uberer -
I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with your new phone. This type of phone not currently supported with Square Point of Sale or Square hardware.
I moved your question to this post - take a looks at @Sean's answer detailing supported devices.
