Are you able to use Square as an "ATM" or "Cash Back" at an event?

Hi @Shadows - transactions made through Square must be for genuine goods or services. Unfortunately, you won't be able to use Square this way. The use of Square to provide cash advances is a violation of our Terms of Service.

We operate at Farmer's Markets and want to be able to take customers milk bottles back and give them their deposit. We would LOVE the option to somehow select an option in SQUARE so that we can give a negative integer back. We've been trying to keep this accounted for separately, but it is causing an issue. Is this something we can please add to the options? If not, would love a work around of some sort. It's a bummer because we really like SQUARE but need this as an option.

Heya @RobinMFD,
Thank you for writing in and adding your voice to this suggestion. Right now, negative amounts or items aren't available on our Point of Sale, however, you could consider using discounts as a workaround.
If you set up a dollar amount discount via these steps, you'll be able to apply this at checkout when a customer brings back a milk bottle to refill, and you'd like to deduct the amount for the bottle as a discount. You could also consider creating a digital giftcard for customers to use at your store again, as credit to use on future orders. Is this something that you think could work for your business? I'll keep an eye out for your reply 🙂
