Is it possible to reload the balance of an already used plastic Gift Card?

Has anyone tried to "reuse" or "recycle" their plastic gift cards once a customer has used the entire card? The Ecard services cards are so pricey—just wondering if we can save and reload them to another customer instead of destroying them? Does anyone have experience doing this?

I have been reusing the same 500 cards that we bought back in 2016.  Some have been thru the system 5+ times if you look at their history.  Yes, they are more expensive but that's it, a one-time fee.  many other systems have monthly fees and loading fees etc for gift cards.  and yes it really gets cheap when a card has been used 5 times.
