How to change personal name not business name?

How to change personal name not business name?

I need help with this too, but the only option I can find under "Personal Information" is to change my business name. I have a typo and would like to correct It without having to start over with my online shop, etc.

Re: How to change personal name not business name?

@CKinkade Sorry for the late reply here,

Unfortunately you aren’t able to edit the legal name you used to activate your Square account. If you'd like to fix a typo with your activation name, you'll need to create a new Square account.

Fortunately the activation name is not public facing in any way.

OP is from 2017, and here we are in 2020. I find it mildly amusing, albeit frustrating, Square is so incompetent as to lack the ability to accommodate business ownership updates.

Has anyone noticed they are in breach of their own terms of service?

You must open an account with us (a “Square Account”) to use the Services. During registration we will ask you for information, which may include but is not limited to, your name and other personal information. You must provide accurate and complete information in response to our questions, and you must keep that information current.

So, how do we keep that information current? Interesting question for the attorneys.

I found this thread while looking for information for legal name change. Square needs to address this. Plenty of people change their legal name for plenty of reasons, and it should be able to be changed on Square. PayPal, for instance, has a secure online way to upload one's legal name change documents. Square could easily do the same.

Actually your personal name is public facing when your clients get text reminders and confirmations about their appointments. This is really confusing to some of my clients as it is my old married name, and not my current married name. I have used my account for so many years that I don't want to start a new one just to change my name. This is really annoying.

In reply to the statement; "Fortunately the activation name is not public facing in any way."

Actually the owners name seems to appear on emails to invoiced customers.

I would also like to change the owners name to the business name so customers do not get confused as to who is sending the invoice to them.

This post is from 2017 & it is now 2020, there is still NO way to change the account name? I'm no longer married and would like to put my maiden name on the account. Are we still not able to make these changes?

I agree that they probably did make that mistake. I have zero confidence in the thought that they're trying to fix it.

I was married and my legal name has changed on my SS number which is used as my EIN as I am a sole proprietorship. I have no employees. With my legal name changed on my bank accounts as well, my state business license and SS number it would seem prudent to do so on my square account as well. Why am I finding it impossible to do this?

This is a very popular feature request that we're tracking in this thread. As of right now, there is not a way to edit the first or the last name of the account owner. Fortunately the activation name is not public facing in any way.

Sorry about that. We'll definitely update this thread when we hear anything regarding the development of this feature @DEBAHENSIL

Hey Square,

I get notifications about once a week with new comments from various name change threads that I've responded to. Your customers are clamoring for you to address this BASIC function for our accounts. And they have been asking for YEARS, looking at these threads. Maybe you should get on this? Asking for ALL OF THE CUSTOMERS who have had a name change.

Seriously! This has been an issue for YEARS and you guys are only able to respond with "We're tracking it in this thread, and that it's fortunate that the name isn't public facing"? The Square Card is issued to account holder, if you're issuing it to a name that is no longer a legal name, then how is that supposed to work? The only suggestions I have seen for fixing this issue are to deactivate and open a new account.

My online shop is built on my square account, if I change accounts, I have to redo my entire website. It is absolutely infuriating that this extremely simple feature has not been addressed regardless of the number of complaints against it!

Fix it, square! This thread was started almost 5 years ago.
