Report restaurant sales when items added to open ticket, not when ticket is closed

How to run a live sales by item report during a shift. Can it print? Can it be done from the Reports feature?

Hello @Barceloneta!

You're right, at this time item sales don't appear on the Live Sales report. This is a great request, thank you! In the meantime, you can view item sales from the Sales report section of the app, once sales have been settled. To view this report go to the Account section of the Restaurants app > tap Sales.

This report can be printed too and you can see even more detail when you run the close of day at the end of the night. We wouldn't recommend running this report in the middle of a shift as it will settle sales!

Thank you. This is a really important live feature and necessary to see before sales are settled and before close of day. It is also important to be able to print this report from the app/local printer.

This reply was created from merging an existing thread: Report restaurant sales when items added to open ticket, not when ticket is closed

We currently use Square for our walk-up/take-out window business. We are evaluating migrating the rest of our property from a legacy POS to Square. One major reporting hangup is that sales are recorded when an open ticket is closed vs when an item is rung in. For a restaurant it's essential we understand when items are selling throughout the night to visualize sales curves and better schedule staff.

If a guest comes in and orders a beverage at 7pm, an appetizer at 7:15, entrees at 7:35, one more entree at 8:05 and dessert at 8:35, and doesn't close the tab until 9:01pm, it's of no help to see all those sales booked to the 9p-10pm hour. We should see some 7-8, some 8-9. You can see this with Square for Restaurants in app Live Sales, but it's essential to review this day the day after or historically, days/weeks/months back.

Questions that rest on this data - How many units of Entree A do we sell between 6-8 vs 8-10. How do wine sales change throughout the evening? Which hour should we staff a flex runner? Etc Is this feature in queue? Seems like Live Sales is a headstart; can you give restaurants the option to report sales based on when items are added to tickets OR when tickets are paid?

Thanks for providing the level of detail you have here, @parkhospitality. At this time, the Live Sales reporting feature will be what comes closest to what you are looking for here.

I've gone ahead and moved your post over to this thread where someone else expressed that this was an important feature for them. I think the additional information you've taken the time to add could be helpful for our Restaurants team when they're considering new features to build out.

We'll be sure to update this thread if we have news to share, so stay subscribed to receive a notification when a new post is added here.

Agreed. We need to see live sales remotely too, even if they are not settled. We need to know how each location is doing in live sales (not after they are settled) from our main office. We need to see if we should send staff home or if we need to send more staff to a location.

Any update on helping us out with live sales viewing? It’s been a couple years

@Yumyumscafe21 I think I know what you are looking for and maybe not exactly.  I know on the open ticket screen it will now show you the total of all the tickets.  This is not exactly what you are talking about but if you have the app on your phone or tablet, you can quickly glance and see what you have outstanding in open tickets.

Thank you very much. We don't need to know what is the amount of open tickets, but we need to know from wherever I'm (not necessarily at the restaurant) how much we have sold. Square doesn't take the sales as final until we run the close of day, which is ridiculous.
