Celebrating Sellers for International Women’s Day: Abby, Abigail’s Gift Boutique

Abby, owner of Abigail’s Gift Boutique, manages the ‘one-stop fashion and gift shop’ in two locations, as well as a fashion truck in St. Louis, MO. We interviewed Abby to learn how she connects with her community and listens to her customers.

What adjectives would you use to describe your business?

Local, Fun, Inclusive

Tell us something about your business that others might not know.

We are women owned and women run!

What makes your business unique?

Nothing else like us exists in our neighborhood, we listen to what our customers want and give that to them.

As a woman in business, what challenges have you faced (if any)?

I look (and act) a bit younger than I am, so when we opened 9 years ago, many people were surprised that a "young woman" was able to create our business and keep it going.

Are there any women in business that you look up to?

On our block there are so many women owned businesses. We have a wine store, a candle store, 2 gyms, a little kids book store, a few restaurants, a bar, another clothing store, and our clothing and gift stores...all run by women! We work together to do events and give back to the community and we all bring something extra special to the table to balance each other out.

Some are more creative, some are more numbers minded... we all help each other grow!

What advice would you give to women considering starting their own business?

Do it! But take your initial minimum budget of what you think you need to get started and then double it.

Who has been your biggest source of inspiration?

My mom and dad. They ran our family business (auto repair) for almost 50 years and made it prosper.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I am thankful for all of the strong women in my life but most especially the ones that help me run my business on a daily basis!

Thank you @Abigails_stl
