How to make high value products visible but not purchasable

I have been in touch with Square in the past about a way to make our "high value" items viewable on our online store but without customers being able to purchase them. Reason being that we prefer to sell these items face to face and in store. They are collection only and we want to avoid the headache of customers paying for a product that is showing in stock but maybe reserved for someone else, customers cancelling on what are some very high value items and expecting a refund which of course comes with fees for us, etc etc. 

 

Square suggested making these specific items "PAGES." This has worked ok for a while, however we are limited to having a certain number of pages and creating these is obviously more time consuming than if we were simply able to make the products themselves visible through Square online. Also it means I have to manually update stock, prices etc.

I am putting a product feature request with Square for it to be possible for "add to cart" to be disabled on certain items, but for customers to continue to be able to view the items and see stock availability, prices etc.

While we don’t currently have an option to disable the add to cart function or reserve stock for in-store purchase, we appreciate you letting us know why it would be beneficial to your business. This kind of feedback is particularly useful to our product development teams when they look at our seller requests.

I currently have a similar need and have a workaround that leaves the item visible however appearing as "Not Available" online.  What I have done is:

 

Under the item details [POS configurations]:

  • mark the item for "shipping" [only] under "fulfilment"

Under account & settings -> Fufillment -> Pickup & Delivery:

  • Mark the location for "Pickup Only"

 

Obviously this may not work for all users (especially if you DO provide shipping from the location), but it works for me. This may also spark other workaround ideas (a second "ghost location" maybe?).

 

I also was very surprised not to find a simple toggle for this feature.
