Ability to implement Custom CAPTCHA on contact forms and subscribe functions

Dear Square staff and community,

(Another one here for you @JJ_ ! )

Firstly, I LOVE the Square website system - it's very-well thought out, so congrats on that! I have already recommended it to two of my friends who are starting stores.

I recently signed up to Square and created a shop website and mailing list only to start being spammed on the daily within a week through both my contact form and in the mail list subscription areas.  I had considered using this platform for both my email marketing and my contact forms; in fact I was on the paid marketing plan but cancelled the marketing subscription, as I'm now having to host these functions elsewhere.

As a web developer myself, I have found that the only way to keep the spam out these days is to have the ability to create a custom CAPTCHA question of my own to fool the robots. This means being able to compose a question and then have the user type in an expect response, such as "Which is larger, 10 or 2?" and specify that the form is expecting the response of "10". Re-Catpcha from Google is becoming less and less effective all of the time (which of course I already had active on Square forms - I had also verified this with Square support chat).

Would the Square Up staff consider this implementation? I'd love to make use of the 'subscribe' functions on my store site and in my shopping cart, but if I need to spend my time weeding out fake subscribers from my list each day, this is counter-productive.  It would be great to have all of my website business functions in one place.

Thanks so much for your consideration!

Lucas

Hey @lucasgaudette, thank you so much for your post. Just stepping in for JJ here. I can see why getting a load of spam messages would be a nuisance for you. The only way to add a CAPTCHA on your Square site would be through Google's own product.

To enable Google CAPTCHA on your contact form:

  1. In your Square Online site editor, select your contact form section.
  2. In the editing panel, select Settings > Form settings.
  3. Toggle the Enable Google CAPTCHA feature on.
  4. Publish your site to see the changes live.

Learn more about contact forms in Square Online.

I will make sure to pass your feedback to our team regarding the efficacity of Google's CAPTCHA to our team, as this will definitely help us work towards bettering our own products.

Let me know if you need anything else! Would be happy to help. 😊

Appreciate it, Skyler,

Yeah I already had CAPTCHA active on the site from the start. It's simply not adequate. Thanks for forwarding this to your team!
