In Stock notifications and special ordering / pre orders for Square Online

We would like to see the ability for customers to request a notification when an "out of stock' item is back in stock. Most eCommerce sites have this option and surprised to see it is not available with Square.

Similar to this we would like the customer to have the option to place an order for an out of stock item so that the item can be dispatched  when it comes back into stock. This could also be used to allow us to put "special order" items on the site that are not held in stock as they are high value or need to be custom made once ordered.

Hi, I really need the ‘notify when back in stock’ option as well. I will sadly be moving to another platform in the next month or two if it does not become available..

While I'm unable to comment on any specifics regarding their development timeline, I can confirm that this specific feature doesn't appear to be on the roadmap for 2023.

I'll leave it to you to make the best call for your business but wanted to be as transparent as possible here since touching base with the team.

I'm quite disappointed that this isn't a feature that has any sort of priority for Square; I've been waiting for the "notify when available" feature ever since I began my online store. While I have customers very occasionally reach out to ask when something will be restocked, people who are really keen are the only people to take the extra steps to ask. I don't see how adding this feature is anything but positive for sellers, customers, and Square; we all stand to gain something from this feature.

I hear your frustrations, @etcbody, and I agree that having this feature would be beneficial for many Square Sellers. However, I regret to inform you that I have no further updates to share since my last comment.

 

The best I can do for you in the meantime is to continue to forward the comments we receive in this thread to our Product Team. Something I can suggest in the meantime would be to include instructions in the item description to reach out to enquire about out-of-stock items. Hopefully, we'll have better news to share here in 2024.

This is a feature I also am looking at as a must have for my site. I am in the process of looking at alternatives to Square as the amount of features that I have seen on other platforms that aren't in square is growing, and it is concerning to not see these gaps being closed
