We also would like to request this option, as we also want to be able to reduce the stock at point of layby while we hold the items till time of pickup. Thanks

I'm not sure if you caught Arie's post above but it's worthwhile exploring the option to accept in-person payments with Afterpay, a buy now, pay later (BNPL) payment method that allows customers to pay for in-person transactions in four interest-free instalments over six weeks.

Hi Laurie, Yes we have had a few customers use Afterpay and wish more would use this option, however the time frame is not long enough for many of our customers who can have a layby running for 10 weeks or more. Hopefully this will be included in a future update.
A big yes please for Lay-by option. I'm so surprised this isn't offered, when the competitors offer it. Certainly makes for a difficult scenario. I do offer After Pay but I would have the same amount of customers use that, as they do Lay-by.
@Laurie_ whilst this may seem an easy option, it is not for 90% of my customers who are older, and dont want the extra fees. As a business already struggling with the costs of running each day, we dont want another fee added to operating expenses. Layby suits our business and customers, and has allowed a lot of our customers to ensure they have the correct product for their projects. We just have to run our inventory at a loss through square and take off line payments from our customers to ensure that we do not oversell a product online as the invoice option does not reduce the inventory available to purchase until the invoice is paid in full.
Any progress on layby option? I currently run it manually in a book, taking cash payments only - surely Square want to take % of these sales? I'd happily pay the processing/transaction % to Square for these sales if I could put them through the POS...
A lay-by feature is not currently in the works, @MerchantR. While we continue to highlight the suggestions we receive in our Seller Community, we can't guarantee if, or when a given feature is developed. In the meantime, you could consider progress invoices to split large payments into multiple segments, or consider Afterpay.
