New update - online orders notification terrible

Ok so we all had to update today on March 5 for the new grid layout.

Just realised the online order notification we used to have with a orange box is now gone, replaced by a 1 sec pop up. Totally impractical in a busy environment. Are we meant to now have another page open and keep our eyes to the screen for online orders? Thats completely inefficient and so uncalled for to change to this. Perhaps they don't want us to use square online anymore.

Anyone else had any luck in settings to change this so we actually know an order has come in whilst working the app? Or any tips as to how to have an alternative solution? Support have been poor on this already when asked.

Also, found the text has gone so small on the grid layout for buttons, any long menu item names don't finish, so inefficient order entry now, having to open up individually to check.

Any way we can change the button size, text or change the POS button text but keep the online order name the same? Kinda like shortening the kitchen ticket name whilst keeping the menu name. Support also failed to address this already.

Thankyou for any help!!!

Hi @Haiku1

Thanks for your post and welcome to the community!

Itโ€™s disappointing that itโ€™s negative feedback that brought you here, but however disappointing, the feedback is important to us and to our product development teams.

At this time weโ€™re still gauging seller response on the features that have been adjusted or added as part of the redesign. So, I wouldnโ€™t be able to provide any information on whether there may be further changes to how online order notifications are currently being displayed on the Point of Sale.

As it stands, unfortunately there is no option to adjust how long the online order notification is displayed. Iโ€™ve brought your feedback about this across to our product team, and will aim to update this thread if there is any movement on this.

As part of the redesign, the font size has decreased and there is currently no way to manually adjust this. However, there are options for adjusting your tile size and editing your POS lay out for greater ease of use. You can also edit the display name on the item tiles, add tile labels, or add an image. If youโ€™re not already familiar with these options, you can find out more from our support article.

We appreciate that not all of the changes that have been implemented are ideal for your business, but we do hope that youโ€™re finding some of the improvements and new features useful. If you haven't already, I'd encourage you to check out our article on the redesign here.

If you have any questions on using any of the new features, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thankyou  @Sineaid for the response.

Yes, the online notification is honestly, such a shame. We will most likely move away from square online just on this. It's ruined the system. We can't honour orders anymore without notification. Its simple. It's like having uber drivers have a 1 second notification that disappears whilst driving for new customers.

I've heard the "We will take it onboard to fix it" before, that's throwing it under the carpet in the end, so doesn't help unfortunately.

As for the tile size, thankyou for the tip. Unfortunately it doesn't adjust variations/modifier tiles. I should've been more specific with this.

Not being able to adjust that, causes our variations to be unable to be read. Not every restaurant has variations as simple as "large" and "hot". This is also very disappointing.

Will be looking at other POS options. Always lots of competitors out there being innovative.

Actually @Sineaid have an idea. Does the square stand system differ at all in interface and layout? Would this perhaps not have been changed to these inferior positions?

We use the iPad app square for restaurants only without a stand.

Thanks for your reply @Haiku1!

Iโ€™ve spoken to our product team directly today, and theyโ€™ve confirmed that they are actively looking at online order notifications. I still wouldnโ€™t be in a position to provide a timeline on any potential changes, but I can assure you that the topic is being discussed with your feedback in mind.

Unfortunately incorporating the Square Stand wouldnโ€™t change how the notifications and tiles are displayed. However, in regard to longer item names appearing cut off, the product team has advised that if your Square app is updated to 6.38, you should find that the text is wrapped rather than cut short.

Iโ€™m going to send you a private message in a moment so that we can discuss your current setup a little more.
