How to troubleshoot USB interface printers

As businesses reopen for in-person shopping and dining, we know it’s important that your hardware is set up and ready to use.

Before we start, here’s a short checklist 📝

 

✔️  Make sure you are using a printer that is compatible with Square

You can find our list of compatible printers here


✔️  Make sure your device software and Square app are are fully up to date.

You can always check for updates from the Play Store (on Android devices) or App Store (on iOS devices).


✔️  Make sure that the printer paper is fully loaded inside the printer.

Troubleshoot USB Interface Printers

If you’re having trouble with a USB receipt printer and Square Stand, follow these Square Stand troubleshooting steps

 

🇬🇧 For UK sellers only 🇬🇧If you’re having trouble with a USB receipt printer and Square Register, follow these Square Register troubleshooting steps for accessory hub connectivity

 

If you’re using a USB printer and an Android device:

  1. Make sure the USB printer is plugged into a power outlet.
  2. Make sure that the USB printer is firmly connected to your Android device via a USB cable and an On-The-Go adaptor.
  3. Make sure there’s a roll of thermal receipt paper in the printer. Tip: It’s always worth reloading your printer paper!
  4. Turn your device completely off and back on.
  5. Delete and reinstall the Square Point of Sale app.
  6. Turn your receipt printer off, unplug all cables and replug them back in before turning the receipt printer on.

 

If you’re using a Star Micronics printer, you can find more advanced troubleshooting steps on their website

 

  If you’re using an Epson printer, the steps are slightly different but these will help you get back up and running.
