Hey all. We are new to Square, new to entrepeneurship and all that entails....
We would like to use Savage not only as our own growth engine but also as a way to give back to the local community and the #maker community at large. How do you other folks find the balance?
I think it was Zig Ziglar who said, you can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.
Engaging in a community has to be about more than just your business - it has to be a genuine offer to help someone else. There's a lot of opportunity to help people out there, so find something that's nearby and feels like a good fit for you. Share what you do together: "Look what we achieved by helping each other" rather than saying "Look I went and helped". Too much focus on you or your brand looks insincere... and maybe it is.
The other thing is to make it a habit; don't just do one good thing once and drop the connection. Like everything else with business, small consistent gains make a much bigger difference than short, quick efforts. Doing a small event / chat / meeting once a month will have a greater impact than a large event that only happens once. Do both if you have the time and budget!

@Michael_L your insights are appreciated!
We want to help for helping sake, just not at the expense of the business. Sounds like helping as a business is pretty much the same as helping as individuals 🙂 which makes it a lot easier!! Thanks!
