Phone calls interrupt and cause POS transactions with chip reader to fail

We have just received 2 chip reader / tap devices.

One is connected to an iPhone the other to a Google Android phone.

 

We have 2 issues occurring.  

 

Both will not accept a chip card inserted in the bottom of the device.  Is there something we need to do to enable this feature?  This is happening with cards that do not have flash/tap on them, but do have a chip.

 

Also, when in the middle of POS transactions, if a phone call is received during the transaction it is interrupted by the phone call and the sales reps have to start all over again.  What can we do to ensure phone calls do not interrupt or override POS transactions?

since you said flash/tap are you from Canada?  if so debit cards can't be accepted via chip and only via tap.  the rest of credit cards should work with the chip reader there is no setting to turn chip cards on.  you say will not accept, what does that mean?  what error message are you receiving?

 

as for phone calls I do not believe there is a way to turn off calls when using Square.  you could use airplane mode but then you would be in offline mode for Square and can't accept chip or tap payments only swipe.

First, as @VanKalkerFarms mentioned as you're in Canada the only debit cards can only accept with the reader are Interac Flash cards, and you must accept those payments using the tap function fo the reader. You can't insert debit cards at this time. Keep in mind there is also a $100 per transaction limit for Interac debit tap payments. This limit is a security measure set by card-issuing banks to protect customers with these cards.

 

Second, you could try enabling "Do not disturb" on either your iPhone or Android device. Have you tried that? With that device setting your phone will still be connected to the internet but calls won't come through!

@Helen, excellent call on the do not disturb, I was thinking of airplane mode and it won't work, but do not disturb should work perfectly.
