As we all know, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have left many struggling to pay their bills, including their rent or mortgage. The CFPB is working with other federal agencies to help homeowners, renters, and landlords during the coronavirus pandemic.

The CFPB has resources to help people who are struggling with paying rent or their mortgage at consumerfinance.gov/housing. This information can help you too, if you find yourself struggling to make your housing payments.

  • Homeowners – Homeowners who have had trouble making mortgage payments because of a
COVID-19 related hardship may need information about entering, extending, or exiting
    forbearance, and avoiding foreclosure.

  • Renters – Renters who are having trouble making their rent payments as a result of the
coronavirus pandemic may be able to get help from federal, state, and local governments with
    housing expenses and avoid eviction.

  • Landlords – Landlords are an important part of the rental economy. They can take advantage of options to keep themselves in control of their property and financial situation.

  • People who have lost their housing – For those who have lost their housing through foreclosure or eviction, help is available to make a smooth transition to a new home and get a grasp on the other parts of their money situation.

Whether your small business serves people with mortgages, those who rent, landlords, older adults, or others, you can help spread the word about protections and relief options. CFPB created sample communications that you can share with your customers. We hope these resources are useful and help relieve any hardship for you or your employees.
