Contactless & Chip Card Reader in constant updating Loop

Have not used the Card reader for a while and trying to use it, App states "Updating Reader xx% - Keep app open". After it completes the update, Square Reader disconnects and then it reconnects to Reader. It goes back into Updating Reader...  This is an endless cycle...

 

Had removed paired device (Forget Device) and re-add it back to App (Connect a Reader).  It finds it and is all happy; soon enough, the Updating Reader cycle starts all over again.

 

Firmware never changes, it is on Version: 3.27.56

 

If problem is with the firmware not been able to update, is there a manual way (without the app) to update it so this cycle would stop?

That definitely does sound frustrating alright. Have you tried doing a hard reset on your reader? If not, hold down the button on your reader for about 10-20 seconds until the lights start flashing red (they'll flash orange first, so make sure to keep holding down the button until the lights go from orange to red). This will bring your reader back to factory settings. 

 

After that, please try reconnecting your reader to your device. If the update starts again, we recommend leaving the app open and connected to your reader for about 20 minutes before trying to take payments again.
