why can't i take offline debit card payments on square terminal

We use our Square terminal for more offline than online sales.  It is frustrating that the terminal won't accept debit cards in offline mode. Is there any way around this?  If not, is Square going to change to allow it?

At this time, Offline payments are limited due to network requirements on Debit Cards that use Chip or Chip+Pin as we aren't able to store this information locally. Our team is actively looking for ways to improve this.
