Open cash drawer automatically after card transaction

Hi,

I'm just about to purchase an updated POS system and I.m wanting a particular feature as not having it has been a pain in the past. I am planning on getting a kit,

  • Square Stand
  • Epson Ethernet Receipt/ Kitchen Printer
  • Printer-Driven Cash Drawer
  • ipad

Most of my transactions will be via the card reader and i need every transaction to have a receipt printed automatically and for the cash drawer to open automatically. Can this be done as everywhere I seem to read that it opens automatically only after cash sales? But on here I read that you can set the software to automatically print receipt and that the cash drawer just gets triggered off the printer. Possible or not? Every card payment automatically generates a receipt and cash drawer opening after SUCCESSFUL payment. Ie. no receipt for a failed/declined card

Thanks in advance.

Hey @gh11,

At the moment there is no way to automatically pop open the cash register on all transactions - it'll only pop open for cash transactions.

Are you able to let me know more about what you're trying to do having the register open for all transactions? I can pass on your use-case as feedback to our product team. While I can't say whether this feature will be built in the future or not, we're always looking to hear about how our merchants want to make use of our POS app and what sorts of features would help out!

Wow, thanks so much for your response!

Our use case is as follows:

-Payment for entry to small exhibitions - single product/ticket for entry

-We have a fixed point of sale which cannot be moved

-An electric door with a code pad for entry

-A single employee who has to get up and open the door after each sale and cannot always be at the POS.or door

Are there any third party apps or ways to generate a physical response (just like the cash drawer opening after a successful payment) that I can design a small relay for, which opens the door automatically after payment?

So basically i want, swipe card for payment and automatic entry.

I'm sure it's not what square is normally used for but thought that i'd at least put it out there and see if you had any ideas.

Thanks again.

Hey @gh11,

You're unfortunately not going to be able to use Square's POS or card reader to do things like open doors - Square's card readers are used for taking credit and debt card payments - while some security systems use card to open doors, this isn't something our hardware is built to do. I'm not aware of any apps that can help with this - I think you'd want to be looking at security systems or specialist locksmiths!

If you're looking to take card payments on a mobile device via chip or tap, this is something we can facilitate!

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm aware that this is not what square is normally used for.

Innovation and creative usage of square was what I was going for.

If I work out how to achieve it I'll let you know.

Regards.
