How do you do tipped and non tipped wages in payroll with multiple wages?

How do you do tipped and non tipped wages in payroll with multiple wages?

I have an employee who does two jobs.

-Job A is a customer-facing tipped wage.

-Job B is a non-customer facing, non-tipped wage.

When I do payroll, there is no option to exclude Job B from the tip pool. Will Square have that with the new Multiple wages feature?

Hello @JonS82

This is a great question, currently there is no way to exclude Job B/ a job title from the tip pool. Tip importing is done at the employee level, so you'll need to edit the tips for the specific employee if you don't want them included.

This is something we're exploring. Keep an eye out for announcements from the Payroll team. 😉

Are we any closer to a solution for this scenario?

I just checked @Gelateria and unfortunately don't have any updates to share on a timeline. Appreciate you checking back in on this. We'll post an update when we hear something has changed!

I have an employee that has two different jobs with two different pay rates at our brewpub.

I am able to go into the time cards and manually change the pay rate and job description when he is working in the kitchen and when he is working as a bartender.

Is there a way that he can select his own shift that he is working when he clocks in at the Square Stand POS?

Yup! Your employee will see the option to select a shift on the screen right he clocks in with his 4 digit pass-code, so long as the different pay rates are added to his Employee Profile under Job Title.

Let me know if your employee is not seeing his shift options.

Currently we use the tip pool option for splitting our credit card tips. I have a number of employees who work behind the bar and then also do other administrative duties around the brewery. They may be clocked in during the hours we are open while another employee is behind the bar. Is there a way to exclude an employee from the tip pool based on the position they are working? Say employee A works as Taproom Bartender (a tipped position) and also works as our Art Director (a not tipped position with a different pay rate). Employee B only works as Taproom Bartender. Can I have Employee A clocked in as Art Director at the same time as Employee B is clocked in as Taproom Bartender and ensure all the tips go to Employee B until Employee A clocks in as Taproom Bartender when things pick up behind the bar?

@DeadBirdBrewing Chad addresses this scenario here. We're still working on a better solution, but we'll keep everyone posted if we hear of something.

Hi @Gelateria,

If still looking for a solution, feel free to check out tipmetric.com. They are integrated w/ Square and have the granular functionality to exclude and specific Employee from the Tip Pool until that specific Employee clocks into a tip pool eligible position.

Anyone have a cross trained employee for positions that are both part of the tip pool and not? How can this be set up in payroll without creating 2 profiles for the same employee? When adding a job to an existing profile, there is no option to select tip pool for one and not the other.  Either the employee us in the tip pool, or they aren't.

Thanks for joining the Seller Community @BlancoBrew! I had to double check with one of our Payroll specialists for this specific scenario. Sad to report that this is a currently a Feature Request. It's not possible to have an employee's second role be a part of a tipping pool.

Also one thing I want to mention is to make sure you're not creating two profiles for that one employee. It could cause some ugly tax filing issues.

Let me know if you have other questions. I did flag this as a Feature Request for some traction.
