Feature Request: Allow customers to look up their Square Gift Card Balance

I am wondering if there is any way for our customers to lookup their gift card balance other than contacting the merchant directly?

You would have to contact the merchant directly, @stephypc, and they could provide the balance.

What if you don't know who the seller was? I recieved a gift card for Christmas with no note as to who's store it is for. The gifter won't answer my messages about it so I assume that they don't know either and were trying to seem generous by giving me a gift card that is actually worthless because No one knows where to spend it.:(

That's terribly unfortunate, @brandywine99s. If there's no business name or information on the gift card, I'm at a total loss. Mayhaps the Square team can chime in here, @EJ_?

I'm going to find out if it is possible for us to look up which merchant issued the gift card using the number on the card. As soon as I have an update I'll update this thread!

If the merchant didn't write their name on the gift card, and you've forgotten who issued it, please email our Support team team with the full gift number. We can let you know the name of the business who issued the card! 

Also, if you think the gift card was issued by a specific business but you're not 100% certain, you can try asking them to check the balance on the card. If they didn't issue the card, the business owner will see a notification on the POS system indicating this and then you can contact us.

This is very disheartening. I purchase 1000 Plastic gift cards wanting to use them like store cards. I ran into (TWO) major problems.

(1) The customers can not check their own balance online, like in the past. Is there another way for them to do this without calling or going through me?

(2) The customer cannot reload gift cards online and the only way  to do so is to contact myself or the company. Is there a link I can setup online where my customers can reload their gift cards?

Both of these functions my customers was able to do in the past. 

Please can anyone help with this? The gift cards will be a complete waste of time and money if there isn’t a easy solution. Thanks!!

@caleblazard I'm really sorry but neither of these features are available with Square Gift Cards and they weren't available before. Customers will need to visit your store to check the balance of a gift card or to reload the card. 

I'll share your post with the Gift Card team and hopefully these features will be added in future. Apologies again for the trouble this has caused.

I found this looking for help checking my gift card balance.  It’s amazing that customers can’t check it themselves.  Especially in 2019.  Not knowing how much is on the card I was gifted makes me not want to use it.  Who wants to wait in long lines just to ask, then have to go to the back of the line to figure out what to order?  No thanks.
