I started this thread because I tried finding similar posts about card payment disputes and I felt like it is not given the full exposure needed for business owners to protect their business/merchandise. I am the owner of a well known bridal and footwear stores across Long Island NY. We have been using Square to power our stores for all payments and daily transactions. On more than one occasion, customers purchased items in our stores and then open claims with their banks for refunds claiming the items were not as described, undelivered or not as promised. Keep in mind, we are not an online store, we do not order items for customers. We are brick and mortar stores where you get what you see on the racks. Try it, buy it, no refund, selective items exchanged. apart from the fact that we have a ton of refund/exchange policy posted every inch of our store, its mandatory for the cashier to read this policy to customers at checkout since some items can cost more than $300.00 now customers leave with the items and go home committing fraud by calling their banks claiming someone stole their card or they never got the item etc. we go through this long extensive process of providing proof to Square who “fights the dispute on the merchant behalf” but still lose without a proper explanation. Thus, apart from the limited information they allow the merchant to provide via their online dispute form, they don’t allow merchants to upload audio and video surveillance. so what now? Customer have the merchandise plus a full refund. the merchant has to go through extensive and frustrating process of going to the police and finding the case in court, that’s if they even get the card holder which can take months to years. this is not a good system. SQUARE HAS TO REFORM THEIR REFUND/DISPUTE POLICY AND NOT EASILY RELEASE FUNDS TO THE CARD HOLDER BANK AND ACTUALLY FIGHT THE CASE OR GIVE THE MERCHANTS A CHANGE TO FIGHT FOR THEMSELVES! DISAPPOINTED. this also happened to someone i personally recommended square pos system to and she also got con. DISGRACE

For the last four years IG has been taking down consignment pages left and right for "copyright/trademark infringement". In some cases I'm sure these account deactivations are valid, BUT in the cases that I personally know about (and experienced), they're not. From March to June I did all of the things I could think of. I purchased meta verified for my personal accounts, didn't work. I chatted with meta business advertiser support. Didn't work. This was probably more frustrating than anything as they kept going in circles. I contemplated hiring a hacker. I figured out the emails for the entire IG corporate team and emailed them once a week for a few weeks. What finally worked was a two part process. Part 1: I contacted our attorney on retainer. Why I didn't do this sooner than June I couldn't tell you. I explained the situation and sent them a template that I know had worked for a few others in the past. Once they had that ready for me I moved to part 2. Part 2: I wrote a 4 page letter to the meta legal team talking about my business. How it started, how we authenticate items, what companies we use for authentication, what we do with counterfeits, etc. I talked about filming content and photographing items. I made sure to mention that we were in good standing with all state and federal agencies. That we were a registered business. In the letters I made sure to mention commercial damages, and that they had gotten a report made in bad faith, which was an abuse of their systems. I printed out my attorney's letter and mine along with proof of over a dozen authentications and mailed them out myself. My attorney also sent a copy of their letter on their own. Shortly after the letters were sent I randomly realized one day that our account had been reactivated! 3 months and 10 days later. My advice to anyone who is dealing with this is to contact your attorney immediately. Have them prepare a letter, and also write your own letter.

Just need to vent. Had our first employee ghost us and it feels like a bad break up! Seriously you guys, I'm not OK! We currently have eight employees and most of them have been with us for between 2-3 years. We have GREAT longevity and (we think) we treat our employees well. As is the nature of retail, we don't expect people to stay forever, especially those that are young (this employee is 19). We extend as much grace as possible wherever we can. But our employee ghosted us.. literally didn't show up to. her shifts, didn't answer ours or her co-workers texts.... We fired her via text... UGH just an awful feeling..

Hey Retail community members! My name is Annie and I’m a researcher here at Square. I am conducting research into how you make decisions to purchase solutions such as Square and gather feedback on some new pricing options we're considering. I am looking to schedule interviews now through July 19th. This would be a 1 hour online meeting and as a thank you for your time, you will receive 180 days of free processing on up to $4,000 in card transactions. If you personally make technology purchasing decisions and would be interested in participating, please use this link to schedule time to talk with me. Thank you! Annie Merrill, User Research Lead

Hi. I'm planning a bricks and mortar store. I really like the Square offering I was thinking of square register but do I need it? I want to subscribe to Square for retail and access the functionality of the service. It's apparel so bar coded. Can I access all the retail POS system and run the shop with just a terminal or two? does it need the register hardware to work or can it work with just the terminal? Can you run reports from the app on your phone or Mac?
