Feature Request: Square Online Store customer log in / accounts

Ive been trying to add a customer log-in feature (with username and password) and finding this almost impossible on weebly. I also wanted to associate it with different membership purchases but this is looking unlikely! I was wondering if someone has done this before and can help?
I believe it used to be a feature in 2017 on weebly but seems to have since been removed. PLEASE HELP ME

Thanks for the detailed use case @simonp!

I'll update this thread once I hear of news. Building this sort of system is no small task, but it's one of our top requests for Square Online so I certainly hope we get there in the future!

Hi Seamus, thankyou for the prompt reply.

I thought Square was built on Weebly, and customer accounts are already enabled in Weebly so shouldn't be a case of building from scratch, just tailoring to the square online platform.

We are hesitant to go live with square online because if a customer has to re-enter their details every time they want to make a purchase they are less likely to purchase from you and once they have had this negative experience they are unlikely to come back to your site.

@simonp I'm afraid it's not quite that simple - I assume if it was the feature would be live already!

Square Online is built by Weebly and they share some DNA, but they are seperate platforms built in different ways to do different things. Square Online's big point of difference is that it's been engineered from the ground up to integrate very closely with the rest of the Square ecosystem, which has a lot of benefits, but also means from a technical standpoint it's not as easy as transplanting the system from one platform to another.

I'm not going to pretend to understand the extent of complexities from an engineering perspective, but our developers have to consider how anything on Square Online will fit into and interact with a whole range of other Square products and systems, which can make things a bit more complicated than they initially may seem. I believe customer logins are in the long term pipeline, but I'm not sure on where they sit as a priority or how significant a project it would be.

In the meantime we released Square Pay to try and meet some of this need - once the customer enters their email address at the top of the checkout page, they'll then be prompted to send a verification code via SMS to pre fill the rest of their details from the last time they ordered anything from any Square Online website. It's obviously not the same as having an account, but it does provide some of the benefit. As a customer I actually prefer this sort of system (Shopify sites also commonly use it) to creating an account because it usually means I have to remember or save one less password, and it also means if I change address/card details it updates over multiple websites - though everyone will have a different preference, and accounts do offer additional features.

Thankyou for your reply. Good to know that Square Pay is there as an interim solution

Hey @motoroils,

Thanks for reaching out, and welcome to our community 😊

I've merged your question to this thread, where we're tracking the feature request for customer account log-ins on Square Online. We'll tag you here to let you know of any updates.

Another upvote for customer login / accounts! As per a lot of the other frustrated posters, I had built my entire website on Square Online, only to realise that this key function is not available. It is such a vital part of the customer journey and loyalty. PRETTY PLEASE!!!

Thanks for adding your feedback @eqyh!

We don't currently have an ETA on when customer accounts will be available, but I'll update this thread if we see this change in the future.

I absolutely agree! I had no idea it wasn't available and I am really frustrated that it will appear as a lack of service to my customers.  People need to be able to see past orders etc.  It's really not acceptable in this day and age of Ecommerce that it isn't available. I hope Square is making this a high priority feature upgrade.

Hi Semus is this feature now available.
