Set weight options & stock tracking

I run a coffee roasting business.

We sell our items in set weight bags, 250g etc, but we track our stock by beans in our inventory, 15kg for example.

It would be a lot of help if we could track stock based on an items weight, and have those weight set. This way when we receive stock we can enter it as a batch.

Currently I have to just assume how many bags I will get from a shipment, problem here being that a 500g bag could also equate to 2 x 250g bags, so if I sell a lot of 250g bags from a shipment I have to adjust the 500g bags down to reflect that, making it a painful process.

Given that we can add weight to options for tracking purposes, maybe this data could be used to track stock too, by adding a "Track stock by quantity/weight" option to items.

Hopefully all that makes sense.

I'm sure this would be beneficial to several small good manufacturing industries

Thanks for adding this feature request to the board! 

I can definitely see tracking stock by weight would make sense for your business and others like you. If you haven't had a chance already, feel free to join our Beta community, where we often recruit sellers to test new features before they get released. We're working on introducing more flexible options for stock tracking at the moment, and recently introduced sell-by units for Square for Retail, for example, which allows you to track and sell items by themselves, or as a six, or twelve pack. We'll continue tracking this request here, and will keep you in the loop with any updates in this thread.
