Hi,

 

We quickly built a Square/Weebly Online Store this week so that people could place contactless/curbside orders for our gelato shop. It's working great and I love that the tickets print out when it's time to make the order.

 

We are also implementing a local delivery service where people can preorder with us and we'll deliver it on Friday night. Right now we're doing it by email to take their item order and we respond back with a Square Invoice to capture payment. Has anyone successfully found a way to do local delivery with the Online Store platform?

 

It would be awesome if besides Pickup or Shipping, merchants could toggle on a Local Delivery button and the merchant could set a few options, such as "Delivery on Friday night, 4-7pm," "Delivery on Saturday afternoon, 12-6pm." Maybe with an option to assign a fee, but that's less important during this emergency response.

We are currently testing Batch Processing in our Beta Community, which may help you out. This is another update to allowing pre-orders on your online store.  We'd love for you to join in the test and provide feedback.

@worldtree EXACTLY. If the customers were able to choose the time, it would just cause chaos. We need options to be able to have certain items available for a future date and time that we supply. For example, our thanksgiving orders just went live today,

and I have already received numerous phone calls and emails regarding the email that says it is ready today. We had to set each flavor up with options such as 30 of item x available on Monday Nov. 22, 30 on Tues. Nov. 23rd, etc. It would be REALLY nice if there was a cleaner way to do this. Pretty please @Square ? This is the 2nd year we have had to do it this way. Ugh.

Yes, we take custom dessert orders for pick up at a later time.  We need to have a date and time for when the order is picked up or delivered.

@_Violet no this does not help at all. ALL my orders are pre-orders for my charcuterie company. 
I need a way to set dates & times as open or close. 
I also would like a way for customer to put in an order request but there card not be charged until I confirm that we can fill their order on the requested date. 
I need this because maybe if I close a date but then have a request for a large order it may be worth it to me to hire extra help for the day. 
right now I am the only person running my whole business. I have to have customers fill out a google form for their order request & then send them a link to pay THEN go back in and edit the pick up date. It is too much back and forth. 
I’m still not getting it all right & losing orders. 
so frustrated!!!

Hi! Just wanting to keep an eye on this development. 

 

This is the first year we are doing some holiday pre-orders, and I was very surprised that I could not just edit an item pickup time by simply putting in a date. We have a group of items that will be available on Nov 24th, but there is no way to set Nov 24th as a pickup time. Our current workaround is just to let people know that all orders are available Nov 24th, and not to look at the time given at checkout. This is very confusing to a lot of people. 

 

Currently we can only pick "prep time" such as 5 mins, 10 mins, 1 business day, 1 week, etc.

We own a small bakery operation in Cary NC. Sweet Arielle (Bakery). We use square and use the online site for weekly pre-orders, which get picked up at a Farmers Market the following Saturday morning. We achieve this by creating a separate location for the Farmers Market and set it only to be open on Saturday morning. We want to take Thanksgiving pre-orders, but they won’t be picked up until two days before the holiday. The confirmation sends wrong p/u date because of default settings. Has anyone figured out a work around for something like this?

We run a "by order" bakery. For different holidays we create special offerings in a limited supply with a specific pickup date for those items, eg a Thanksgiving Special to be picked up the day before Thanksgiving.

 

Thus far, I've only seen two ways to do this.

1) Create a separate location in your account where this special item will be available and select unique pickup dates and times. Sadly you still have to go through and block off lots of days so that only the 23rd for example is available to the customer. Overall, not ideal since it requires an entirely separate "location" when the physical site is really the same. POS systems don't easily switch between sites if needed.

2) Rather than create the item as physical, use "Event". Then the event date and time can be the pickup window for the product. The downside here is that I am not sure what the emails to the customer look like for events, and I don't want to confuse them after they place the order.

 

We used to run a woocommerce sure but made the switch to the Square/Weebly site since most of the functionality we needed was there.

Has anyone actually figured this out yet with a solution that isn't jerry-rigged? They say they implemented it, but I don't see it outside of the basic options. I tried the event, but I don't want to have 15 events for preorders or a week long event. Plus that only works for pickups and not shipping or delivery. I sell a large volume of orders that need to be shipped or delivered locally. 

 

Here's what I need for my business. When a customer is buying an item, they have the ability to select the date delivery/pick-up that is longer than the default times (5 min, 1 day, 1 week, 2 week...). I know I could also just change the delivery time after the order is placed, but I routinely get customers that think it's immediately available. I could also put a text box for them to select pick up dates, but that seems cumbersome/clunky.

 

For example: I want a widget, it will take up to 2 weeks (from today 11/15) fulfil (Shipping/Pickup/delivery), but I want it on or my recipient to get it on 12/3. 

What is the status of the Beta testing for pre-orders? @kellyj in the answer below, you said that it should be starting last May. We would love to be able to enter pre-orders and accept payment at a later date. Thanks!
