Hi,

 

We quickly built a Square/Weebly Online Store this week so that people could place contactless/curbside orders for our gelato shop. It's working great and I love that the tickets print out when it's time to make the order.

 

We are also implementing a local delivery service where people can preorder with us and we'll deliver it on Friday night. Right now we're doing it by email to take their item order and we respond back with a Square Invoice to capture payment. Has anyone successfully found a way to do local delivery with the Online Store platform?

 

It would be awesome if besides Pickup or Shipping, merchants could toggle on a Local Delivery button and the merchant could set a few options, such as "Delivery on Friday night, 4-7pm," "Delivery on Saturday afternoon, 12-6pm." Maybe with an option to assign a fee, but that's less important during this emergency response.

We are currently testing Batch Processing in our Beta Community, which may help you out. This is another update to allowing pre-orders on your online store.  We'd love for you to join in the test and provide feedback.

I'm the owner of a Bakery that makes fresh bread and sweets daily. There are some items we make every day. Some items that are only available to purchase on the day we make them and the following day. And then some items that we make special for holidays (king cakes for Fat Tuesday, anyone?!)

 

An example for date specific items: for Thanksgiving we made a workaround page for Thanksgiving specific items and used options for "pickup day." That the customer could choose. But it got confusing. Customers kept calling because square would say the order was ready as soon as it was placed, even though they were going to pick it up in 3 weeks.

 

For day of week specific items: In the past, we've allowed customers to order items that are only available for any day of the week and used the details section to explain what day the item they we're ordering was available for pickup. Very quickly customers were ordering Friday items on a different day, and then showing up at the bakery and getting angry at us because square told them the item was ready for pickup. We're using time-based categories to solve this right now, but customers can't preorder for time based categories at all so it severely limits online sales for those items.

 

Since we make everything from scratch, we like to get orders in as early as possible for a given day/date because it helps inform us on how much of each product to make. And with the 6+ hour lead time bread takes to make, we don't have a lot of wiggle room for error.

 

We're really excited about a lot of the features coming from Square Online! Itemized taxes has allowed us to offer more in our online store. Self serve delivery makes it possible to do curbside delivery without tying up our phones. Day-of-Week and Date preordering is the last big feature we're waiting for in order to have feature parity with phone/in-person sales.

@Patchwork Good to know.  So that's how you handled it? Moving to "service" then just setting date within the item settings?

Trust me when I say this is a feature that is high in demand and we are really pushing it from our side! I really hope it's available soon as I know how important it is to have features like this.

I'm not sure why some of these features essential to help businesses stay relevant are not priority during this difficult time.  I would have loved this option over donations etc when Covid-19 happened. Would love to see this feature added ASAP!

This is exactly the issue I'm having, and it goes beyond bakeries. This is a classic way that items are sold in food retail. Just think of Honey-Baked Ham at the holidays!

 

Please, please, please implement this!!!

How should I handle pre-orders? We are a small bakery with some items only available on certain days. I want customers to be able to pre-order these items for pick-up days before they are available.

 

'Order Windows' limit when orders are placed... I need them to limit when items can be picked up.

 

I can see there is an old feature request to the devs but is there a workaround? Square Online is useless to us without something.

Is there a way to set a specific day & time to "release" a new item. I would people to be able to preorder items that will be available on a specific "release date" 

I need the exact same ability. 

 

Yes, this is what we need too. 

We plan things regularly, pre-sell, then all of that item is available on a future day.  

 

We just need to put items available online, available for pre-sale, with a specific pick-up date that can be set.
