Is there a way to access a POS system via a laptop?

I'm needing to process payments for our fundraiser and the registration tables will have laptop computers.  It would be nice to have a POS to ring up the registration fee, raffle ticket purchases etc an be able to track orders paid by by credit card, check & cash.
