Our old system, allows us to enter the barcode by scanning, or when not readable, enter the item number instead. When doing either, the information about the product, along with the price, is populated on the order form/invoice. I have read several places, but never found a true answer, but need to know before I start adding inventory, if this is the same case with Square? If not, then can I enter the item number first in the description field, and when I can't read the bar code, if I enter the first 3 digits, or possibly all 6 digits, will the rest be populated in the description? If not, is there a work around that someone else is using?

Scanning or manually entering barcodes is possible on Square Point of Sale and Square for Retail. In order to scan barcodes you will need a compatible barcode scanner. You can also enter the barcode manually into the search and items with similar or exact barcode numbers will populate.
