Should I just transfer my domain to Square? It was with Google.

I'm trying to migrate my store to Weeble. I guess. I really haven't used my website in a few months and now it's different. I tried to change DNS and it didn't work. When I type in my website address, it goes to the old one, which I can't edit. Customer support was no help. They just emailed me a set of instructions to change DNS which I did already. Should I just transfer my domain to Square? It was with Google.

Hey @Mets234-

Sorry to hear that.

You have a couple of options for using your existing domain with the new Square Online Store:

  • You can transfer your domain name to us. This process moves the domain name from its current registrar to our partner registrar, Register.com. This allows you to manage the domain name settings and billing through your online store dashboard. Read more about this option here.
  • You can keep your domain name at the current registrar, and change the DNS records to point to the IP address of your new online store. This will keep the management of your domain and website separate. Read more about this option here.

If you're still having trouble with this, please provide us with your domain name so we can look into the DNS. Thank you!

I had already gone through that process. It won't let me transfer it. The circle is grayed out.

Isabelle I am at my wit's end. I had a chat with Square. One hour later, they sent me an email which just gave me instructions I had already read!

Had another chat with Square, and this time they told me to contact Google to :

1. Point the A records to the correct address

2. Remove any other A records that don't match

3. Remove Store.Squareup C name.

I contacted Google and they did everything I asked - that was 120 hours age.

I contacted Google again just to make sure everything was done correctly. They assured me it was done.

Where do I go from here? Just give up my website and go somewhere else?

Please help!!!!!!

Hey @Mets234-

I had someone look into this on our end, and they said that the last step is to add the cname record:

Once you does this, the domain will connect to the site after standard domain propagation. They said on the back-end, they don’t see a domain transfer was purchased, nor to they see a failed transfer. They said they see this often because there's confusion between transfer and pointing/connecting. I hope this helps. Please let me know! 👀

Oh, sorry about that @phopkinsiii!

I think these instructions might be helpful:

After logging in, click the dropdown in the top right corner, then click on Domains>your domain. On the next screen you will see DNS RECORDS. Click Edit.

You will then click the +Add Record link. A record will be added for you. Then click “Type” and select TXT from the drop down. Add in the “Host” and “Points to” fields and then click Save.

Changes to dns can take up to 24-48 hours to register on the backend. The site should also be published again before requesting Google verify.

Does that help? Let me know!

Yes
I believe that’s what I’m looking for. Can you tell me the values that go into the Host and points to boxes?

Hi @phopkinsiii-

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community.

The “points to” is the TXT record in your previous screenshot. You can leave the host blank or use the @ symbol.

I hope this helps! Let me know.

I'm trying to verify my domain name on Google Console using DNS configuration. I get the following screen from Google Console.

Can somebody provide me with instructions to paste this into the DNS area of my Square/Weebly website?

I have been able to use the URL method, but Google seems to want this too.

Hey @phopkinsiii-

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community.

Would you mind taking a look at this thread? I just worked with @Mets234 that was experiencing some similar issues with it comes to Google and Square Online Store. Let me know if that helps, if not, I can look into this further.

Isabelle,

Thanks for looking into this but I believe that is a different procedure than what I’m looking for. My domain was registered with Square’s host and not with google so I don’t need to transfer.
Google is attempting to verify my ownership of the domain name, asking me to paste a html text string into the integration section of the store associated with my website hickorycoveorchards.com. This is a new verification method for google. The previous method works on the integration page but the page will not accept the text string for the new method. It seems there should be a second entry box on square integration page, but I’m unable to locate it. I can send more screenshots if helpful.

Running into the exact same issue with my Square purchased domain.  When I add the DNS record with the google provided text I am getting an error message with no details as to what the issue is.

For a google integration of a square purchased domain, exactly what steps need to be taken to complete the DNS entry correctly?

THANKS

DNS updates can take up to 24-48 hours to fully propagate on the backend. You will also want to make sure to publish the site after adding the record that Google is referring to. I hope this helps, @Rescueforlove!

I am having issues verifying my DNS with Google Workspace as well. I have used square to set up everything including google workspace. I have followed every tutorial and step process to the letter. I have even waited the 24-48 hours. Please help. This is the only error message I see. I don’t know how to fix this issue.

Hey there @Barrier for some reason your image did not load here correctly, Could you re-upload the image in a new reply or explain the issue?

Also, have you tried reaching out to our Square Online support team? They may be able to shine a light on this situation.
