Square offers several options for customers to have their credit card information stored for future charges with a vendor.
If a vendor asks for credit card on file to cover future costs, is there a way to run some sort of check to identify if the card that has been added has enough available credit or that it isn't maxed out?

From what I can tell, there isn't a way to check available funds for a stored credit card. I have had times in the past where the card has declined on me for this reason.
With invoices though, you will either get a declined alert when you process an invoice or you'll get an emailed alert that there was a problem with a stored card payment when you have recurring payments set up. Either way, you are alerted right away so hopefully you'll be able to fix the payment issue before working on the project.
