Invalid Phone Numbers during Check-Out?

Hi - I run a small online business where 100% of my sales are digital goods. I have customers from around the world purchasing from me, but the majority are from the USA. I recently have had a few customers (from AUS) receiving error messages during the check out phase when they need to input a phone number. I've been told all information is inputted correctly, the country, state, zip and phone number, however, square says the phone number is invalid/incorrect. I've set my check out options to make inputting phone numbers as optional, but it is for some reason still requiring that information during check out. I'm not sure if option is not optional for digital good deliveries? If not, why does it still say the numbers are invalid if I'm being assured they are valid (not like I can verify if it is or isn't)?

HI, the Square platform does not allow for international numbers.

You can get a Google Voice number to use for these situations.
