Customize Modifier Set Order

Customize Modifier Set Order

Once I select an item, how do I reorder the sequence of modifier sets for that item?

It's been 7 years since the original issue was presented - a basic sort/arrange for modifiers. Adding a number and/or symbols to force a sorting sequence is unprofessional and can be very confusing for anyone. Has there been any movement on this?

We are still trapped in this walled garden of Square for Restaurants.

Hey there, @WBinc & @JayBirdsChicken

I don't have an update for you on this Feature Request, at the moment. It still is not on the roadmap to be implemented. It doesn't mean this will never be considered going forward.

I have moved this long standing thread to our Ideate Board, so our Product Team can see how many sellers are continuously interested in seeing it developed.

Thank you for taking the time to add your voice to this request. If you know of any other sellers who would be interested, please feel free to tag them.

Thanks, Kassi! It’s kind of surprising to hear it hasn’t made it to the roadmap, but hopefully the Product Team can see the low hanging fruit that’s been hanging for so long. 😭

@Kassi_ I really hope the Product Team doesn't gauge interest in a feature based on who posts in these topics.  That would be obsurd.  Features like this have been available in every Point of Sale system I've used for the past 25 years I've been in the business.  If it hasn't gotten a lot of hits here, it's not because there is no interest in having these features, it's more likely businesses are moving to other solutions because they can't find very basic features here.

Seven years and this feature request is not even on the roadmap? This is highly discouraging. Please consider implementing it because although we are using workarounds, we are doing so in the hopes this will be fixed soon.

My suggestion is put in the R&D money to use and have someone go through all the feature requests and actually have someone compare to see if those features exist in your competitors software.  I guarantee you this feature exists in all others.

For me it is important because modifiers need to show up in a particular order of how it needs to be made, grouping similar modifiers (topping modifiers, temperature modifiers, preparation modifiers, add-ons, etc).  Also, if the modifier has a charge it seems to get moved to the bottom of the list with the most expensive at the bottom.

Example (not how i currently have it implemented because of the workarounds, but to demonstrate what we mean)

Cheeseburger

- No Raw Onion ($0.00)

- Medium Rare ($0.00)

- Cut in Half ($0.00)

- Ranch($0.00)

- Add Grilled Onions ($1.00)

- Add House Salad ($4.99)

- Add Extra Patty ($5.99)

If you read it, you can somewhat figure out whats going on. But we would want that extra patty modifier to be read first., the Salad would need to be next to the Ranch to make sense. The two onions modifiers would need to be placed together.  All these are because the cooking staff needs to be able to understand the ticket in the most efficient possible way and speed. Seconds, not minutes during a rush period.

We are currently using workarounds to make it work for us, but that means we need to create too many redundant and superfluous items and when we need to make changes it takes way more time than is necessary....and time is money.

I hope you take in to consideration what I've posted here, and understand that I really like your product. I will continue to use it.  However, if we expand our business and our need for expanded features increases, we want to feel confident that you listen to feature requests

Eight years later, I'm guessing Square doesn't care about its customers if they can't implement this simple change.  How does Toast or Clover handle it?

Pretty frustrated with the new release that was forced on us! It completely changed the order of modifiers that I had finally gotten somewhat compatible with our order entry process. It will not let me arrange modifiers using number or alphabet sequences.

Also, it is now requiring us to choose modifiers on items that were not set up as required in the old version.

We should have the option to switch to a new release or not!
