My Square will offer customers a chance to sign for an electronic SOMETIMES. Why does it not do this consistently?

One reason could be that the customer signed up for electronic receipts at another retailer who uses Square, and paid by card. When they've done that and pay by card at your store (or any other that uses Square), the receipt will automatically be sent to their email address. I was quite surprised when I first noticed this, but our customers have never had any problem with it.
