Discount Stacking

Discount Stacking

Please make a feature where we can prevent discount stacking!!! We are losing money and so is square!  our loss is significant so im sure square's would be also.  Do we need to appeal to someone who is concerned about Square's income from sales??

Yes, I have discounts for items on sale or items on clearance, then someone uses a 10% off coupon or an employee discount and it double stacks. 1 coupon per item, when multiple coupons applied greater discount would apply or at least some prompt to say "error - item X has multiple discounts applied - review transaction for accuracy"

Hey @Stacysonmain,

Thank you so much for the feedback on this request to have an option not to allow customers to use more than one discount at a time. I've updated the status to review. Please invite other sellers to share why this feature would benefit them. One of the Community Moderators will update the status when our Product Team gives us some more information. Keep an eye out for your email once we do.

We appreciate your patience.

Hello, Checking to see what progress has been made on this issue. We have to manually remove the discounts that stack and doing that is very time consuming and not always remembered by busy staffers.  We are losing money because of these stacking discounts, and so is Square!

Example: Members of our Wine Club receive Loyalty Rewards.  Those same club members are part of a designated group that receives automatic discounts. When they redeem their Loyalty Reward, the automatic discount is also applied; stacked on top of the Loyalty Reward. We do not want this stacking to happen.

There are several threads regarding this issue and it has been raised for several years.

Thank you!

This is an absolute NEED ASAP. This especially applies to online orders that we cannot correct until after the sale is complete. It is bad business to ask customers for more money after the sale. My customers are using an ONLINE DISCOUNT code and redeeming loyalty points rewards, AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE they are earning loyalty points on the shipping they pay. NOT GOOD at all. PLEASE allow us more control over the parameters of the loyalty points earning and redeeming them. ASAP. Thank you

I don’t have an issue with discount stacking, I think it is good, but agree some business might not want to stack.

I have more of an issue with the point where a stacked discount is applied. Currently when a coupon is applied to an automatic discount, the coupon discount is applied to the pre discount price, not the automatic discount price. Because of this a 10% coupon discount is actually discounting more than 10%. A 10% discount should be 10%, no more no less.

I'd love to see toggles to allow for no discount stacking and even for no loyalty rewards when discounting.

Obviously in some cases people might want discount stacking or loyalty to be earned on discounted merchandise but that should be doable via a toggle.

Currently I have a clearance section where everything is $1, ideally I'd like it so they don't earn loyalty on it but it's not the biggest deal. For all of my other promotions I've switched discounting to loyalty because loyalty means I get the cash up front instead of taking the hit immediately.

I'm currently experimenting with loyalty promotions and my biggest gripe with those is that theres no visual when my employees are ringing up whether the promotions are working and you can't edit said promotions.

I do have a few outstanding coupons and other promotions but I'm always super careful to put the fine print stating they aren't valid with other coupons, promotions, or discounts.

Online sales are difficult because we don't have that manual touch to prevent stacking but buying in person definitely allows a bit more control over stacking.

I would also like to request this feature.

I have "Buy 2 get 1 free" type discounts on several items, employee discounts, and "refillable cup" discounts. It takes substantial time for my staff to custom add these, so I have them all automated.

The automation is GREAT for reducing transaction time but is terrible when the items are added and the customer is an employee, has a refillable cup AND purchases something using the "buy 2 get 1 free" discount. It could end up with 60% or more off due to all the discounts happening at the same time. Which is excessive.

It'd be nice if each discount had a "does not stack with other discounts" button. Or something of the sort.

Setting a "Maximum Value" does NOT fix this because all discounts have a different value. We need to allow only ONE discount per transaction instead of allowing discounts to be stacked. This is a pretty basic thing. Otherwise, you can have 35% off for an employee discount, 10% off for a wine promo, 20% off for some other discount... and before you know it, the items have been discounted 100%.

Why can't there be an option of whether to stack discounts or not? Allow us to turn that on or off.

Hey, @Cheesetique I have moved your message to our Ideate Board for Square Loyalty. While this feature is currently not planned for release you will find out first here when that changes. Please make sure you like this idea for the visibility of the Product Team.

We have run into the issue of customers using loyalty points on items after the sale has already gone through.  This has become an issue when these loyalty rewards are being used to further discount already discounted items, creating a "stacking" effect.  I was hoping that there could be an option that disables loyalty rewards on items that are already discounted, but that feature does not seem to exist yet.  I think it would be a great option, as we can't be the only business that is unintentionally losing money on this.
