Customize Modifier Set Order

Once I select an item, how do I reorder the sequence of modifier sets for that item?

They are going to lose my business over this issue. Like you, it is critical that I be able to set the order for modifiers. I have literally tried everything. At one point, I spent an entire day re-entering in every modifier for every item I sell. It seemed to respond to alphabetical ordering at one point. So like the other person here, I did A1, A2, A3 for all my items HOWEVER that suddenly stopped working with no apparent explanation. I sent my customer an invoice and all of the modifiers were displayed in a completely randomized order. This is absurd. I have eliminated the following as factors in setting the order:

- Time of creation of modifiers

- Alphabetical order of modifiers

- Order of selection of modifiers

I literally have no other ideas or work arounds to try. It seems completely random which is utterly crazy.

Hi @firedogleather

While you can use that workaround for your Modifier Sets, individual modifier arrangement is still something that we're working to prioritize.

I agree that this would be a huge help, and our Items team is definitely aware of this, so hopefully we can get this fixed for everyone in the near future.

This is not working for me. It will work on one item but randomly not work on the others. My waiters and cooks are used to write/read the order in a certain order. I don't want to mess with that. Any more tips? This is my set up:

3 Eggs with meat -

1A. Style of eggs

2B. Meats

3C. Sides

4D. Toast or Muffin

So it works on that but then on 2 eggs with meat it'll be different.

It'll be

3C. Sides

1A. Style of eggs

2B.

4D.

I'm so confused.

Hello @buttermilk, is this how your modifiers are displaying on the Square Dashboard or your Point of Sale app when you go to add an item?

It’s in dashboard and app. I’m Using restaurant app. I keep changing it on the dashboard and it won’t take it. It randomized. The 1A, 2B etc trick works 2 out 4 times. All I can think of is to delete the items and re enter them.

Interesting, @buttermilk have you tried making the modifier set with just the numbers, rather than numbers and letters?

Just did it with just numbers. It comes up with 3 before 1. Its random, please fix this.Screen Shot 2018-07-21 at 5.20.20 PM.png

I had to delete the item and re-create it.

I own a cafe, and we have 100 add-ons and modifiers, a  lot of these modifiers can be applied to many items. My issue is, since we opened, we have been slammed day in and day out, and it's pretty decent for having 0 experience creating menus. But I need to make this easier for myself, every time I go add an item, I have the challenge of having to move around modifiers because they show up in the wrong order, and when I do, I might have accidentally messed up the order in another item. I have tried so many different things, like numbering the modifiers, but if I do, I might not be able to add that same modifier to another item because it might not be in order. Then I think about, let me just create different set of modifiers, but they are the same, so I can apply to different items in the categories. Well, that doesn't seem to work either, anything I add on the modifier title to set it apart, like "modifiers for protein bowl" will show up on the online store, when maybe I want it to say "Add protein". I don't know if I explained myself well enough, I hope I did, and that someone might share what they have been doing to help the modifers be a bit more organized.

Hey @redmosquita

I've moved your post over to this existing thread, as a few other sellers have asked for something similar here.

While you can move around the modifier sets, editing the order that the modifiers appear on screen isn't available at this time.

A few sellers within this thread have posted some workarounds, so hopefully one of them works for you until we can get something better rolled out to help with this.
