Remove Default Categories from Library

Remove Default Categories from Library

Having a set of default, unremovable categories that takes up more than 3/4 of the Library screen is untenable.  I'd wager the majority of Square users don't use Gift Cards or Rewards; a few probably use discounts and service charges.

We should have the ability to edit/remove/hide categories on the library screen.  As a Square user for both my personal business and as head (read: only) IT guy for a local nonprofit, being able to remove the useless-to-us categories would save me SO MUCH PAIN from volunteers getting "lost" because they hit the wrong category.

(Yes, I created a for-dummies document that a lobotomized kindergartner could follow.  No, it didn't help.  Anyone who's worked with people will understand...there's always that one person who couldn't find their a** with both hands and a map, who throws up their hands, turns off their brain, and wails for help the second they get slightly confused.  Usually while you're elbow deep in something else, but their problem is the most important thing in the world!)

Re: Feature Request: Option to remove "Redeem Rewards" and/or "Gift Cards" from

I know they added more unwanted items on the main screen, but Square thinks by adding the one grid to our phone has helped. We are at farmers markets, craft shows and concessions where speed is key. We have our iPad set up grid style that helps. When I have a line and have to use my phone one grid are area doesn’t help. Make the option happen to turn off unnecessary items. We are a community asking of Square to please offer this as a way to speed up our transactions. For the love of pete sakes hear our words! We need a toggle to turn off those unwanted items! TOGGLE SWITCH TURN OFF ITEMS UNNEEDED!

Re: Feature Request: Option to remove "Redeem Rewards" and/or "Gift Cards" from

Now the “new” home screen has 5 lines of unneeded space hogs instead of 2 lines of useless functions.  On my phone (which is the ONLY way I use square) I can only see two of my items, but I have two scroll up to see my menu.  I work farmers markets where transaction speed in incredibly important, every step slows down sales.  It is hard to fathom that SQUARE could make the issue worse than it was.

Re: Remove Redeem Rewards from Item List

Hi there!

The Redeem Rewards selection cannot be removed completely, however using your "Items Grid" you can customize what appears as available to select.

Head over to our Support Center to read more about the Items Grid.

I have been waiting for an update on this feature for over a year -- is it really that difficult, Square? Remove or reorder... I'm getting a little tired of having to work my business around your clunky product.

"I wish we could implement every feature request we see overnight"
Really?

This is not "overnight", this is over a YEAR!

This is not about implementing a new feature, this is removing a menu option.
it should be done in a couple hours max!!!

(if the intern is really lame in programming).

So get this fixed and cut the BS. We’re only trying to run our business and be efficient

It has been way over a year and way over a year of sad excuses.  My son is a coder and he said it is usually not that difficult to remove something as long as the line is written well for the next tech to understand and ID it.  This is becoming shameful... kinda like Donald Trump.  I hope Square doesn’t get worse than him because that’s already really really bad.

I would like to know why it benifits Square so much that you put Square above the customers happiness?

you guy’s constantly come up with new versions and updates for what YOU want... it would seem that you could do something that WE want!

I am starting to think it may be wise to jump ship since the competition is pretty much there as well.

Or how about this?  You guys take two points off of our fees for the ones that don’t like it until you fix it!

Putting a copy of what input somewhere else here as it seems to be a tech support person:

You guys need a thumbs down button so you can feel us a little better.  Not many lost what they feel and since you only offer a “like” then it doesn’t show up as that important.

Mote users need to “like” the other users questions and replies to get Square to take notice!

Square Community... do your job and like the ones like me to get the point across.. don’t be passive because it’s your business they are harming, not theirs.

Hi,

I see that this thread was started last year and all the users here have suggested making the redeem button and gift cards on the item checkout screen optional. I was looking into how to remove them myself. have you made any progress? are you listening to your users? you're the only game in town so can you improve your functionality?

please advise.

thanks

I am glad you said your views here ... but it falls on deaf non caring ears.  You will hear excuses from the Square staff about how many suggestions they get daily, how hard it is for them to make adjustments yet they can keep updating what they want all the time.

As I tell all, hit the like button because it helps them see others are reading and caring.  Request a "Do Not Like" button so we can show how we feel about their answers.

Welcome to the club of misfits.  Apparently we are not enough requesting this change to warrant a couple lines removed from the code.  Coding is not that hard Square staff.  Send it to my son and he will fix it.  He is a Computer Science Major with the natural knack for coding.  Stop the excuses and fix the issues.. that's all we ask because it is us selling things that allow you to take your share of the pie so why don't you try working in favor of us for once.

Now I have the luxury of having the "Monkey" level icon ... is this a hint Square?  I feel like a monkey that eats bananas and can't get anyone to listen at Square to resolve an issue.  Now that I think of it, its time to give that glorious review of my feelings about Square and how I really feel... oh and another glorious "Your opinion in 1 minute" questionnaire just popped up ... if you would have read the last one you wouldn't be asking me again

We do not plan to use gift cards or rewards.  How do I delete those categories from the list of items that shows up on the mobile application?  Those two lines take up valuable screen space.

Hi @jay2020 and welcome to the Community.

I moved your post to an existing thread where other sellers asked the same question.

Check out the answers throughout the thread. This is not an option you would be able to do in terms of removing it.

Our organization would also like to remove or hide "Redeem Rewards" and "Gift Card" entries from the item list. We'll never use them and they take up too much screen real estate on a Square Terminal.
