Required to select a dining option

It would be amazing if dining options were a required selection before a order is sent back. Customers come up to the register and place a order and new employees tend to forget to ask if for here or to go and I would be ideal to make it where the dining option pops up or something as to remind them to ask.

This is an awesome feature that could cut down a lot of kitchen mishaps and make the ordering process much more smooth.

At this time, i'm excited to mark your request as reviewed as well as suggest a workaround.

In the meantime you may be interested in making that a modifier on the order that way the fulfillment type is a part of the order which allows front of house and back of house to get the memo about whether the customer will be dining in or taking out.

@_Violet This is an issue for us as well. We have a Square Stand on our counter where customers walk up and place takeout orders or call in their orders. It would be ideal for there to be a way to identify order type as a first step before going to the menu page to input order, that would be the correct flow for us. Because we also do dine-in with table side ordering using our iPad Mini POS.

 

Currently as a workaround, we created 'ToGo' tables and 'Phone Order' tables on our floorplan. We place orders on those tables when they are takeout or phone orders. Which leads to another issue, when it is a takeout order, the customer typically pays right away, which leads to the order going to the KDS but disappearing from the POS. Which then makes it hard for front of house to track takeout orders.

I would like to add our vote for this feature.

We are a Cafe and approx. 40% of our sales are to go.  We tried the workaround of having on the Floorplan a "Table" called "TOGO" However it actually happened  where a 2nd cashier used an open ticket on the "TOGO" table and added to the check more items and the customer complained we were trying to cheat him.  

To Go orders are packaged differently and right now, we estimate a daily 5% mistake rate on coffees prepped mistakenly, especially during rush hours.

I would be great also if the Choice for "To Go" "For Here" etc was not only mandatory but at the very beginning of the check options.  That way a coffee selection could be send to one print station while the customer makes other choices and the coffee is ready by the time they are ready to pay.

This should be a feature out of the box. In states like California, to-go food is generally exempt from sales tax, where dine-in is subject to sales tax. Without this feature, we have resorted to taxing all orders unnecessarily, or having to micromanage cashiers in order to keep them compliant with the regulation. This is a function where Toast has Square outclassed.
