Customized Item Order in Square Online

One of my homemade items has a two-sided label that can be customized (text) by the buyer. How do I set that up in Square Online? I've experimented with Modifications but there's no place for the buyer to input the custom text they want (and I can't see that I can force them to do so during the checkout process),

Any ideas on how to make this possible? Thanks!

HI, yes, you can capture text.

Here are the breadcrumbs and screenshot to create.

Add Modifier, select Typing Text Into A Box, Text Box Label (name), be sure to change character limit, Make Required or not, Save

HI, no, a text box does not have the ability to charge a fee.  You could create a Variations drop down and the text box separate.

Standard Label

Custom Front +$5.00

Custom Back +$5.00

Hope This Helps!

Hi, thanks for your reply.

As far as I can tell, that solution doesn't allow me to charge for the modification like the checkbox option.

Does it?

To make this work I think I have to create different item listings for the same product with the customizable product configured with both the text input box AND the checklist with prices associated with each checklist line.

Am I right in assuming that I can force the buyer to fill out the text box on the item page if I make the input box required?

HI, there is a check box that states Make This A Required Field (the system will not allow a purchase without this information).

Best advice, do not over think it.

One drop down for label option.

One text box for text.

I have a personalized gifts website, you can click around the items and see how to setup different options.

Example:

t-shirt with size options (which is the fee based), color options, 2 text boxes

Hi again,

Thanks for the link to your product! It helps me wrap my head around making this work for me.

Off-topic question for you: Are you sublimating your products? If yes, what is your preferred product for cotton/darks? I'm researching products like CottonSub, EasySubli, etc. to determine which is best for my use. I have Siser ColorPrint Soft Opaque (which I haven't used yet) but the sample I looked at still had too much of a hand feel for my liking.

Thanks for your advice, Goldneye aka Terri!

HI, which function? the text box in modifiers?  I use and give examples using the regular Retail Format template.  Are you on POS?

Hope This Helps!

HI, thank you for the screenshots.  You need to create a new Modifier.  When you click Manage Modifiers you will see, first screenshot, click on Create New, then you will see second screenshot, that's where you can add a text box.

I thought that was you! @Gold 😊👋

@auri123 Please see the correct steps from @Gold at the top of this thread. I believe you will need to be on the Square Online dashboard to access this option.

HI, to verify, you are trying to Capture Text correct?  Are you on the Retail Template? When you select Edit Item scroll down to Modifiers.

Hope this helps.
