My last name changed in 2015, but why can I not change it in my account?

At this time, the ability to edit the Owner's name listed on a Square account is a feature request. To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post from one of our Seller Community Moderators.

Has this issue been resolved now? I have an ex-employee who created this account and need to transfer the "account owner name" into my name (the owner of the business). I have all legal documents needed to verify my ownership of the business and we have just recently finalized the open Square Loan as well. Is it possible to change the account owner name now without having to create an entirely new account? Because that is not an option worth entertaining. Help please 

Requesting the ability to change the name of the business owner. I recently got married and would like for my name to be the same across all aspects of the platform. The only solution to this problem as of right now is to create a new account under my new name and I just want to point out that in doing that, I would lose all of my customer info, history, and data. Hoping Square will make a name change possible so that I can keep the same account I’ve had for the last 7 years. Thank you!

I too need to change my last name due to marriage and cannot find how. 

I was able to officially change the owner names from my old business partner to my name as the main account owner. It’s under “transfer business” section. Unfortunately that’s the only way to do it. You have to literally transfer the “business” from one owner to another. You don’t lose any of your sales history or anything like that. But it’s not a simple name change thing unfortunately. Not too sure how it’ll work since it uses your SSN as a way to identify who the owner is and who it’s being transferred to. But it is possible and relatively fast. Took about 20-30 mins and everything was still integrated with my shipping platforms and website backend. You should actually call Square to make sure you can “transfer business” even though your SSN will be the same for the “old owner” and the “new owner” (but different last name due to your marriage). Congrats on getting married! 🥳

The problem it seems I have with my account owner name is it belonged to a previous business profile. I believe the reason my email theme in the communication section is using the account owner logo not the new one. Do I need to create a new account and migrate everything? Website design, items, profile, ect.?

I can't transfer in the about my business section because I do not have a tax ID. Please help!

I can't open a checking account with Square because the Business Owner name is wrong. When will this feature become available?

@JWnaturals Thanks for that! I was able to successfully transfer my Square account to myself to update my name using the same SSN and email address I had on my Square account. I had to update my password, but all the business details, transfer bank account, invoices, etc... remained the same.

Please let your management team know that it is absolutely ridiculous that when a female business owner legally changes her name she cannot change her name in your system unless she "transfers ownership of the business." Truly unacceptable. I have changed my name with every single vendor that I do business with - why can't you figure it out in your system?  When all of our business information is exactly the same and just the owner's last name has changed you should not have to jump through hoops, it should be as easy as updating an email address.
