Owner name change

My last name changed in 2015, but why can I not change it in my account?

I went ahead and merged your post to an existing thread where other Square Sellers have discussed this topic as well. We merge duplicate conversations together to keep like comments in one place, and to make it easier for others to find the thread in the future. 

 

At this time, the ability to edit the Owner's name listed on a Square account is a feature request. To learn more about how feature requests work, please see this post from one of our Seller Community Moderators.

I moved your post to a thread on changing the owner name on your account. 

 

Unfortunately, you cannot do that currently, so a new account would have to be created. new owner's name is ownership has changed.

It's been at least 2 years and you haven't came up with a solution to edit an owners name?  Management has changed and we don't really want to close one account and reopen another.  Please fix this so we can edit our account to reflect accurate information. Our account has an obsolete name and number that I am unable to update.

Hey! I merged your post with an existing thread so we can keep all the requests in one place. I understand your frustration in this and I hear you. I would want to change the owner's name as well... I know that ownership changes in businesses. 

 

This has been a huge feature request, as you know, but unfortunately it is not something that is likely to change soon as there is a lot of security that goes into changing the name associated with the account. 

 

I appreciate your time and will share if we have any new updates. 

Please fix this issue, we don't want to create a new account. We want  to change or update account owner name with existing account.

HI @jac4- The only way to fix the issue of changing the account owner name on an account is to create a brand new one. Sorry about that. We'll keep you and the others on this thread updated if anything changes.

How soon will we be able to change the owner's name on square accounts?

Why will Square not allow us to change our names from when we first opened our Square account. My last name that shows up on receipts is confusing my customers.

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community.

 

Having the ability to edit/change the account owner name of a Square account has been highly requested since the Seller Community started. Unfortunately, I do not have specific reasoning as to why this feature isn't available yet. We realize this isn't ideal and can be frustrating.

 

Rest assured, that only your business name is visible to customers so you don’t need to worry about that information being displayed publicly.

 

We keep your name on file for our records but if you update your account information, your customers will not see the name originally entered.

Square states here, https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/3861-edit-your-account-and-business-settings :

"Square currently does not allow sellers to change their Account Owner’s name. We are working on a solution and we are regularly make improvements to our products. Join the Seller Community to stay informed about new improvements."

 

Square states in their TOS here, https://squareup.com/us/en/legal/general/ua :

"You must open an account with us (a “Square Account”) to use the Services. During registration we will ask you for information, which may include but is not limited to, your name and other personal information. You must provide accurate and complete information in response to our questions, and you must keep that information current."

 

Without a way to change our current Account Owner's name, we cannot keep our information with Square current. The offered solution in some community answers to start a new account under the new name is NOT a viable solution, especially for users with a long history, large inventory lists, customer base information, etc. Give your users a way to change their Account Owner names. Every other financial institution and credit card processing company does so, and your users are asking for this repeatedly.
